Duns Community Nursery is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) nursery run by a community of local parents and staff. We believe our children are at the heart of everything. By developing and encouraging the uniqueness of every child, ensuring their growth is about them and not employing a one size fits all approach. Providing a safe, warm space allows them to find themselves.

Our nursery provides childcare for over 49 children from Duns and the surrounding areas. Without our nursery there would be very limited options for families to go to, leaving a rural area desperately short of childcare particularly for under 3’s. Our nursery supports families to continue working in an ever challenging economy by providing a 7.30 am – 6 pm, Monday to Friday, 50 weeks of the year, whilst maintaining a home-from-home environment for their wee ones.

We are raising funds for a building makeover as the current space is dated. We also need to fit the rooms with an endless list of items; toys, books, clothes, sleeping equipment, tables, chairs, cutlery to name just a few. Our space requires an overhaul to create the safe learning environment for our children to explore and develop using the curiosity approach.

As our nursery grows, we aim to increase the nursery’s activities to provide services that benefit the wider community. We are currently exploring intergenerational care, free childcare for when people are interviewing for jobs and cooking classes.

 

The community has supported our mission every step of the way and we want to give back to them. Our nursery’s everyday engagement with the local area will teach our children to be confident community members, they are the community and the future.
